Palmprints have over 1,000 reference points, which significantly outnumber those in fingerprints (20) and irises (250). The techniques for interpreting these ridge characteristics have been widely standardized, mirroring fingerprint recognition standards. The FBI employs palmprint recognition for identity verification. The touchless palmprint technology is compatible with standard biometric apps through the KFTC. Notably, Korea has adopted this software-based recognition in its primary financial sector for the first time.
